Masserene Barracks attack

This weekend, an army base in South Antrim was attacked by dissident Republicans, which the Real IRA have claimed they were responsible for. Two soliders were killed and 4 people are seriously ill in hospital which includes the two pizza delivery men. This is the first time in 12 years that a British solider has been murdered in Northern Ireland. It's clear to see that people in Northern Ireland have been left shocked and outraged by the recent events and for most it is a horrible reminder of what has happened in the past in Northern Ireland. Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said of the attacks, "I supported the IRA during the conflict, I myself was a member of the IRA but that war is over. Now the people responsible for that last night's incident are clearly signalling that they want to resume or restart that war." Ian Paisley Jnr. also had to say of the attacks "For the last 10 years, people believed things like this happened in foreign countries, places like Basra. Unfortunately it has returned to our doorstep."

Despite the horrible attacks, it seems as though all parties in Northern Ireland are united and are determined that these attacks will not derail the peace process.
